1936 Gratiot Ave was originally constructed as a 20-foot concrete roadway from Eight Mile to 14 Mile roads
1950s Major rehabilitation widens the three-lane boulevard
1960s & 70s Major rehabilitation is done to widen lanes and overlay pavement
1993 Roadway is resurfaced from 11 Mile to 14 Mile roads. Cost: $6.4 million
2000 Gratiot Ave is micro-surfaced. Cost: $1.7 million
2006 Roadway is resurfaced. Cost: $3.8 million
2009 Preventive maintenance on cracks in the roadway takes place from Eight Mile to 14 Mile roads. Cost: $500K
2017 Gratiot is resurfaced from Eight Mile to 14 Mile roads. Cost: $5.7 million
2021 Major reconstruction begins to rebuild Gratiot Ave from 11 Mile to 14 Mile roads, removing original pavement, reconstructing with layers of gravel and dirt, resurfacing with asphalt, improving drainage, and making all ramps and sidewalks ADA compliant. Cost: $65 million
