1936 | Gratiot Ave was originally constructed as a 20-foot concrete roadway from Eight Mile to 14 Mile roads |
1950s | Major rehabilitation widens the three-lane boulevard |
1960s & 70s | Major rehabilitation is done to widen lanes and overlay pavement |
1993 | Roadway is resurfaced from 11 Mile to 14 Mile roads. Cost: $6.4 million |
2000 | Gratiot Ave is micro-surfaced. Cost: $1.7 million |
2006 | Roadway is resurfaced. Cost: $3.8 million |
2009 | Preventive maintenance on cracks in the roadway takes place from Eight Mile to 14 Mile roads. Cost: $500K |
2017 | Gratiot is resurfaced from Eight Mile to 14 Mile roads. Cost: $5.7 million |
2021 | Major reconstruction begins to rebuild Gratiot Ave from 11 Mile to 14 Mile roads, removing original pavement, reconstructing with layers of gravel and dirt, resurfacing with asphalt, improving drainage, and making all ramps and sidewalks ADA compliant. Cost: $65 million |
