I-94 Frequently Asked QuestionS

The project area is I-94 from Masonic Boulevard to North River Road. The project is 5.4 miles long.

Work begins on April 27, 2026 and is expected to finish by October 25, 2026.

Drivers can expect weekend full closures of I-94 between M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) and Metro Parkway for up to five weekends per direction. At least one direction of I-94 will always be open.

Drivers will also see double-lane closures on I-94 between Metro Parkway and North River Road for resurfacing, up to three weekends per direction.

Intermittent single-lane closures will also be in place throughout the entire project limits for concrete work.

Eastbound I-94

·         Take Exit 231 to M-3 (Gratiot Avenue).

·         Continue north on M-3 (Gratiot Avenue).

·         Turn right onto eastbound Metro Parkway.

·         Re-enter eastbound I-94 using the Metro Parkway entrance ramp.

Westbound I-94

·         Take Exit 236 to Metropolitan Parkway.

·         Turn right onto westbound Metro Parkway.

·         Turn right onto northbound M-3 (Gratiot Avenue).

·         Use the first turnaround to go south onto M-3 (Gratiot Avenue).

·         Re-enter westbound I-94 using the Gratiot Connector entrance ramp.

The following ramps will be resurfaced during this project:

·         Eastbound I-94 exit ramp to southbound Harper Road

·         Eastbound I-94 exit ramp to northbound Harper Road

·         Harper Road entrance ramp to eastbound I-94

·         Shook Road entrance to eastbound I-94

·         Eastbound I-94 exit ramp to Metro Parkway

·         Eastbound Metro Parkway to eastbound I-94

·         Westbound Metro Parkway to eastbound I-94

·         Westbound I-94 exit ramp to Metro Parkway

·         Westbound Metro Parkway entrance ramp to westbound I-94

·         Eastbound Metro Parkway entrance ramp to westbound I-94

·         Westbound I-94 exit ramp to Shook Road

·         Westbound I-94 exit ramp to northbound Harper Road

·         Westbound I-94 exit ramp to southbound Harper Road

Ramps will be closed for up to 3 days to resurface the pavement.

There will be limited noise disruptions during this project. The majority of the work will occur during the day, but for safety reasons, some work will be required to be completed at night. The project will minimize the noise as best as possible.

Milling the old asphalt pavement and replacing it with a new asphalt surface is an economical way to extend the life of the roadway and improve ride quality.

No, the dimensions, location, and number of lanes that exist within the project will remain the same.

The overall project cost is projected to be just over $12 million.
